5 Key Lessons from Our First Year Running a Fitness Studio

How community, service, and the right strategy helped us build a loyal member base.

Dear Fitpreneurs,

Last month, we celebrated Revamp’s first birthday.

Over the year, we've welcomed 239 customers and held 294 consultations.

Here’s what we've learned:

#1 - Community Is Everything

Before launching our studio, we almost decided against creating a Facebook group.

We were tired of them and didn’t think it’d be useful.

Thankfully, we went ahead with it.

Our community group and events have been crucial for bringing members together.

These efforts keep people engaged, boost retention, and reduce churn.

When your community is strong, it’s hard for anyone else to compete with you.

#2 - Service Is Key

Running a small studio isn’t just about offering sessions.

Plenty of places can do that.

We realised we needed to go the extra mile with customer service.

We reply quickly, remember birthdays with gifts, and check in on members who might need extra support.

Often, it’s these little touches that mean the most.

#3 - Social Proof Sells

Social proof works.

But there isn’t just one way to show it.

We share client stories, take selfies after sessions, and always grab group photos at events.

The smiles and testimonials makes Revamp a fun, welcoming place.

#4 - Attract the Right Customer

Our target customer is over 40, looking to get fit, and maybe feels a bit intimidated by big gyms.

So, everything we do – from our marketing to our service – is built around that profile.

Unlike most, we don’t post “before and after” photos.

Instead, we highlight stories of “feeling stronger” and “having more energy.”

We want people who are in it for the long haul, not just to drop a few pounds for an upcoming holiday.

#5 - Get Good at Operations

Launching Revamp #2 taught us that running multiple studios requires a whole new level of organisation.

What works for one location doesn’t work when you’re managing two (or more).

So, we’ve built a back-end system for our team to stay aligned on our mission and keep things running smoothly.

It might sound a bit dull, but it’s made a big difference to our day-to-day and how we work together.

That’s it from us. Reply any time…
