The Coaching Call

Have you ever been suckered into a coaching call with a client that lasts FOREVER?

They’ve paid you right? So the least you can do is sit down for 2 hours with them while you chat about yesterday’s weather.

Wrong.

Coaching calls should be about coaching (clue’s in the name)

What does this mean? Well… there has to be a reason for the call and an outcome gained from the call. This isn’t “chit chat” or a catch up.

When we starting coaching many moons ago, we made the mistake of offering coaching calls within our offer.

“We’ll meet on Zoom every week for the next 3 months” we’d tell the client.

We thought this was a really cool thing to offer but we quickly noticed that it was becoming a pain in the ass for us and our clients.

They’d block out 1 hour of their day, jump on a call with us and because they were hitting their targets, there wasn’t much to talk about.

Having said all this, there will be times when you need to schedule in a call and solve a problem your client is going through.

After many years of tweaking, we’ve developed a structure for an effective (and efficient) coaching call.

Here it is:

  1. Wins: Kick off the call on a high with some positivity, even if you have to manufacture it. List at least 3 wins from your client’s fitness journey or everyday life.

  2. Lessons: Tap into the lessons learned from any of the wins mentioned.

  3. Opportunities: Are there any light bulb moments you have after hearing your client’s wins and lessons? Could they improve or try something new?

  4. Challenges: List down any challenges or issues your client has had since your last coaching call together.

  5. Prescriptions: Work out a solution to the challenges your client has mentioned.

  6. Resources: Are there any supporting resources, links or training you can hand them to support your prescriptions?

  7. Goals & Actions: What are the next set of goals and actions you want your client to implement to make sure they keep moving forward?

  8. Next call: Get a timeframe in place for them to work towards their goals and set a date to review this on your next call together.

If you follow this framework, you’ll be able to cut your coaching hours down and improve your clients’ results.

The Coaching Call Script

This is a script you can use and refer to whenever you have a coaching call with a client. We’d recommend saving this into client folders in Google Drive so you can easily make a copy of it each time you have a call.

Social Proof (2 Slides)

“Wow” your followers with a recent result your client has got and throw in a second slide to direct warm prospects to your DMs. Drag in a client screenshot and find a high-resolution photo of yourself to use Canva’s background cut-out tool.
