How to Create Effective Online Coaching Programs 🥷 A Lesson on Client-Centered Coaching

Guest written by Ash Burleigh, PTD Ninja

As a coach, creating effective coaching content is essential to help your clients achieve their goals.

However, not all coaching content is created equal, and it’s important to ensure that the content you create is clear, actionable, and results-driven.

Here, we’ll explore our key tips and strategies for creating effective coaching content based on the data we have from helping 1000's of personal trainers set up their online programs and systems using PT Distinction.

Tip 1: Assess, Apply, Accelerate

One of the most effective ways to create coaching content is to use the Assess, Apply, Accelerate model.

This model involves assessing the client’s current situation, applying relevant coaching content, and accelerating progress towards their goals. By using this model, you can create coaching content that is tailored to the client’s specific needs and goals.

Tip 2: Be Clear and Concise

When creating coaching content, it’s important to be clear and concise. Use simple language and avoid jargon or technical terms that your clients may not understand. Break down complex concepts into smaller, more manageable steps that can me tracked and measured over time. Not only be clear in the task but in what is coming next. A simple why to do this is to use "What, Why, How, When, Then" approach. This is a simple framework for creating effective coaching content.

  1. What: The first step is to clearly explain what the client needs to do. This is like a headline that stands out and grabs their attention. Make sure it's specific and actionable, so they know exactly what they need to do.

  2. Why: Once you've explained what they need to do, it's important to explain why it's important. Show them the benefits and the emotional connection to why this task will help them achieve their goals. This will help them understand the importance of completing the task and increase their motivation to do it.

  3. How: Next, you need to explain how to complete the task. This should be practical and straightforward. Tell them what they need to do, step by step, to complete the task successfully.

  4. When: It's important to specify when they should complete the task. This will help them plan their day and ensure they have enough time to complete the task effectively.

  5. Then: Finally, you should explain what they can expect next. This could be the next step in their coaching journey or the next task they need to complete. This will help them stay motivated and focused on their goals.

Tip 3: Make it Actionable

Coaching content should be actionable, meaning that it should provide clients with clear steps that they can take to achieve their goals. Provide specific instructions and give clients a clear understanding of what they need to do and how to do it.

Tip 4: Hold Clients Accountable

It’s important to hold clients accountable for their progress. This can be achieved by setting goals, tracking progress, and providing feedback. Encourage clients to set specific, measurable goals, and provide them with tools to track their progress, such as a workout log or food diary. Regularly check in with clients and provide feedback on their progress. This doesn't mean you need to run coaching calls, by the way.

Tip 5: Be Results-Driven

Effective coaching content should be results-driven, meaning that it should help clients move closer to their goals. Focus on content that will help clients achieve tangible results, such as improved strength, increased endurance, or weight loss. Use data and analytics to track progress and adjust coaching content as needed.

Creating effective coaching content requires a strategic approach that is tailored to your idea client avatars needs and goals. By using the Assess, Apply, Accelerate model, being clear and concise, making content actionable, holding clients accountable, and being results-driven, you can create coaching content that is effective and helps clients achieve their goals.
