How to Handle the Price Objection

Every personal trainer faces these 3 dreaded words during their career:
“I can’t afford it”
If you’re actively taking on clients, you’ve probably faced the price objection time and time again.
It’s usually the people who seem the most interested who bow out last minute and say it’s not financially viable for them.
Here’s five ways you can handle the price objection:
Best Case / Worst Case
This is where you present them with two scenarios and paint a picture of what their life would look like in each case.
Best case… they get fit, rival the incredible hulk and kiss their biceps in the mirror. Worst case… they fall into the old way of doing things and not see progress.
“You’re Going to Spend it Anyway”
This one is all about defining priorities. Most people make their money and spend their money. Sure, they’ll save a little bit here and there but when it comes to their health, it’s important they prioritise it in their lives (if it aligns with their goals).
Two Choices: Cheap or What You Need?
How many times have you hopped on Amazon and resorted to buying the cheapest option? If you’re anything like me, this usually ends up biting you in the arse. It’s the same for your prospect. They could either continue watching free YouTube videos or they can invest in someone who is going to hold their hand and get them results… easy decision.
Delayed Payment Close
This is a last resort. If your prospect genuinely can’t afford your services, it’s probably because they don’t trust you enough to get a return on their investment. To put them at ease, offer them a payment plan. This will minimise their risk but still means they become a client of yours.
When Do You Get Paid?
This puts your prospect’s interests first. A lot of people just have to manage their cash flow. In other words, it might not be a great time to invest now but a week from now…? Sign me up! Using this plan, you can collect a deposit and schedule the remaining balance to come out on pay day.
Price is a barrier every business owner faces. Your brand, market and the value you hold will ultimately determine what you’re worth. If you can’t help someone, you shouldn’t offer help. But if you can help, experiment with these objection handling scripts next time you’re faced with the words, “I can’t afford it”. Good luck!
