(Lol just kidding)

This is the stuff business coaches preach far and wide. And you may have fallen into this trap before.

But while outbound messaging can work to grow your PT business, it’s important to tie it to your personal and business goals.

First, let me take you back to pre-2016…

When I used to be in a boy band (yes I know you still have the posters on your wall), our management team told us something I’d never forget.

“You have to play the game before you can change it”

I think there’s truth to this. They basically meant… write pop bangers before you decide to release a slow, artsy and melodic indie record.

For example, Beyonce went from singing about being Crazy in Love in 2003 to Alien Superstars in 2022.

She went broad to capture attention and then introduced her chosen style of music. She played the game before changing it.

The same can be said about your PT business.

If you’re just starting out and need clients, then get that phone out your pocket and start sliding into DMs.

It feels sh*tty I know and you’ll probably get a lot of doors slammed in your face — but you’ll learn a tonne and you’ll book calls.

Once you’ve landed clients, you can then decide to double down or pull back depending on your business objectives.

Wanna make £10k+ a month? Learn to love outbound and use it as part of your strategy.

Wanna make £3k a month? Keep your clients, ask for referrals and produce good content.

Now this is where our advice differs from the fitness business gurus:

Your content can grant you permission to DM someone.

Here’s what I mean…

Use call-to-actions like “comment below” or “like this post” to funnel people into the DMs. Use polls in your stories to segment the keen beans from the IDGAFs.

This will give you more opportunities to reach out with personalised messages and you won’t feel like a sleazy car salesman.

The maths then becomes simple if you track it:

  • Reach outs = 200

  • Conversations = 60 (30%)

  • Discovery calls = 6 (10%)

  • Sales calls = 5 (80%)

  • Sales = 1 (25%)

The more you do it, the better those percentages become and you can break it down to match how many new clients you’d like each month.

If any of those percentages drop, fix the leak in the pipe and go again.
