Top 5 Purchases We Made For Our Fitness Studio

Essential Investments That Transformed Our Studio

Hey — it’s the Cardy Brothers.

We’ve gone from 0 to 3,800+ subscribers in the last year. Thank you for giving us a reason to spend 3 hours writing these words every week.

Top 5 Things We Bought For Our Studio

  1. Boditrax Scales

  2. Member T-Shirts

  3. Goodie Bags

  4. Client Events

  5. Membership Cards

When most personal trainers set their sights on owning a gym, they obsess over the equipment.

Don’t get me wrong—squat racks and sandbags are cool. But you wanna know what’s cooler?

Goodie bags.

On a serious note, it's the attention to detail that keeps members sticking around.

Here are the top 5 purchases we've made since building our studio:

#1 - Boditrax Scales (£8k)

This is the most expensive bit of kit in the gym but gives members something they can’t get in many other places.

We use the scales during our consultation and offer optional weigh-ins for ongoing members.

One of the reasons we get buy-in from the beginning is because we have an accurate measure to work off.

People come in and get an accurate report of their health. This then becomes easier to set goals.

“He who can diagnose the problem, owns the solution” — Cardy Brothers.

#2 - T-Shirts (£1,074)

We ordered 100 t-shirts before we even started pre-selling memberships.

The reason we did this is so the t-shirts could become part of the sales process.

Let me explain...

Whenever someone signed up, we announced them on Instagram (like football teams do).

This created a whole bunch of FOMO and led to loads more enquiries. We didn't have "before or afters" as we were brand new. So we decided new members joining would become our social proof.

💡 Top Tip: Turn your merch into a collectable. We added "Founding Member" to our first batch of 100 t-shirts. This added some scarcity amongst people signing up. After all, who doesn't want to be a "founding member"?

#3 - Goodie Bags + Postcards (£106.82)

We also gave new members their own goodie bags.

I used to love going to parties as a kid and walking home with a bag in my hand and some strawberry laces in my gob.

Sadly there weren't any laces (boo!), but we did include a welcome postcard and their t-shirt in the bags.

Besides from surprising new members, it also added a cool signal of demand.

New members would walk out the gym, displaying their bags in-front of people waiting to join.

#4 - Client Events (TBC)

Now this isn’t in the gym itself but one thing we've decided to invest in is regular client events.

We’re doing these on a quarterly basis and will give members a chance to connect.

I’m talking boating, golfing, fitness retreating, wim hoffing. You name it.

Your average gym won't surprise and delight you like this. So it adds another benefit to being Revamp member.

#5 - Membership Cards (£76.99)

A local gym should give back to their local community.

So we set up partnerships with local businesses to give our members special perks.

We ordered x100 cards on Vistaprint and spent some time securing partners.

We also gift this to new members once they decide to commit long-term.

Last Word…

From speaking to other studio owners, this is the stuff that tends to take a back-seat.

But we've found it super important in acquiring and retaining members.

Don't sleep on the moments between the moments.

Get some branded sh*t and spend a few pennies celebrating your members!

That’s it from us.
