What Sets Our Gym Apart from the Rest: The Secret Revealed

The Special Touches that Make Our Fitness Studio Stand out From the Crowd

Estimated read time: 1 minute 59 seconds.

Dear Fitpreneurs,

When we decided to open a fitness studio in our local town, some people thought we were stupid.

“There’s already a gym at the leisure centre!”

“What happens if PureGym opens nearby?”

“Your membership is too expensive. No-one will pay!”

But we knew we could offer something no-one else can:

A loyal community.

Here’s what we did to make our gym more than just a gym:

NEW EPISODE

4 Steps to Save a Failing Fitness Studio

We put a plan in place to rescue a struggling fitness studio. Fred (not his real name) reached out for help with his gym, which on the surface is doing okay at £6,000 a month in revenue, but underneath, it's barely surviving.

Fred is exhausted, handling 35 semi-private sessions weekly by himself. We lay out a plan to overhaul his business model, making his workload manageable and his studio more profitable.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • How to restructure your gym’s business model without members leaving.

  • What membership tiers to avoid at all costs.

  • How to get more time back if you’re coaching on the gym floor all day.

  • The fastest way to get more members queueing up to join (even if you’ve been around for a while).

  • How to overhaul your entire sales process and improve client conversion.

#1 - Facebook Group

Our Facebook group is a safe space for all our members to engage with each other.

When people join, we encourage them to introduce themselves and share their wins.

This creates a ripple effect and means members can chat to each other away from the gym.

We’ve seen so many friendships form already in our group.

Plus the banter is always entertaining!

#2 - Birthday Cards & Gift Vouchers

Turns out when you have 80+ members in the gym, £20 gift vouchers add up!

But we wouldn’t change it for the world.

Would AnytimeFitness pay over £150 per month on gift cards? No.

But can a semi-private studio with 65% profit margins do it? You bet.

Quick question: What describes you best?

#3 - Monthly Coffee Club

Another way we build our community is by hosting a monthly coffee club.

Members can drop in for a free coffee and we can chat about anything.

It’s a great opportunity to meet and ask questions relating to their membership.

Plus we can support local independent coffee shops too.

#4 - Merchandise

We already went into detail about our merchandise in this issue.

But offering branded clothing is a fast way to build brand loyalty.

When people go to see their favourite band, they wear merch.

When they support their local football team, they wear merch.

It’s a great way of signalling to the world, “I belong here”.

#5 - Quarterly Events

Finally, and perhaps most importantly: our quarterly member events.

Every 3 months, we arrange a themed activity for all clients to get involved in.

We’ve already hosted our Christmas Party and climbed up some walls as Clip ‘n Climb.

Doing this stuff away from gym helps to strengthen relationships amongst members.

We have a budget for each event and try to make it non-fitness related.

Other events we have planned (subject to change):

  • Wim Hof Method Workshop

  • Escape Rooms

  • Kayaking

  • Ninja Warrior

  • School Themed Sports Day

Final Words…

When you own a semi-private gym, it’s not your coaches, equipment or sessions that keep members coming back.

It’s your commitment to building a loyal community inside and outside the four walls of your studio.

That’s it from us. Reply any time…
