How to Ask For Testimonials Without Sounding Desperate
4 Proven Tactics to Secure Powerful Testimonials For Your Gym

Estimated read time: 1 minute 36 seconds.
Dear Fitpreneurs,
If you want to grow a local fitness studio, you have to ask for testimonials.
Why? Because word of mouth is the most powerful form of advertising and it costs nothing.
But how do you request testimonials without sounding like a desperate loser?
Here’s how:

#1 - Create a “Testimonial Culture”
When you onboard new members, set expectations early.
We have a rule that clients must share their wins in our Facebook Group.
Once this happens a few times, people naturally join in.
We then screenshot the nice words and use as content.

#2 - Stack The Win
Never ask your members for a testimonial if they haven’t experienced a win yet.
That’s like asking someone to review a book they’ve only just started.
Instead, wait until they’ve reached a milestone and stack it with a testimonial request.
Something like this:
“Hey {Name}, just wanted to message to say a huge well done for achieving {X}. You’ve smashed it! Just wondered if you could share your results in a quick testimonial for us? We’d really appreciate it and it would definitely help us as a local business. The link is here: {Insert Link}”
#3 - Make It Frictionless
Don’t make testimonials a long and boring task.
Most clients are happy to leave a nice review. But they’re also busy.
If you expect them to sit down and fill in a 10-page questionnaire, they won’t.
We use a handy tool called Senja. This makes it easy for members to leave a text/video review.
It takes them 1 minute (max) and means we can store all our testimonials on one page.

#4 - Offer a Bribe
If you want to guarantee nice reviews, offer a bribe.
We save this for when we ask specific members to film testimonials.
For example, we arrange video shoots where we ask clients to speak on camera.
To sweeten the deal, we usually offer a free t-shirt in return.

Final Words…
When you have undeniable proof your service is amazing, you’re winning.
Beginners look for hacks. They scour the web for the perfect ad strategy or funnel.
But fitpreneurs (i.e you) realise one fundamental truth:
It’s all about the service.
Get that right and your members will line up to offer testimonials.
And the positive reviews will compound the growth of your studio.
That’s it from us. Reply any time…
